Local Area

The Coach House is situated in the village of Whaley Bridge, which offers tranquil walks and a charming selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Goyt Valley’, Whaley Bridge is located at the head of the scenic Peak Forest Canal; a great place for walks and wildlife-watching.

At the centre of the village tree-lined canal towpath lends itself to leisurely walking and cycling to both Bridgemont and Bugsworth Basin, and is also the starting point for long distance routes such as the Goyt Way and Midshires Way.

The scenic Goyt Valley, with its reservoirs and wooded hillsides, is the perfect location for longer walks. A great option for a bracing walk and breathtaking views is Windgather Rocks, where climbers regularly practise their rock-scaling skills and walkers pause for a fortifying picnic when exploring the windswept moors of the Dark Peak.

There’s plenty to do in the local area; Whaley Bridge is only 15 miles from Manchester and 6 miles from Buxton, both of which can be easily accessed by road or train. It’s also a great base for a trip to Castleton, Alton Towers, Chatsworth House or a trip to Bakewell to sample their tarts.

We have plenty of information for you at The Coach House to help you plan your Peak District stay.
